Ms. Laide Abel

Laide is a Chartered Accountant and Human Resources Professional with very strong capabilities in strategy and transformation, design and delivery, risk management, people strategy and general project and business leadership. She started her career with PriceWaterhouseCoopers, after which she joined the banking industry, where she spent over 17 years in various functions before retiring as a General Manager in charge of Corporate Strategy. Her banking experience spanned Guaranty Trust Bank, UBA, and Intercontinental Bank where she performed a variety of roles that exposed her to the invaluable experience of general business strategy, management, and leadership as part of the executive management team. During an illustrious career spanning more than 3 decades, Laide’s direct roles included Head of Strategy & Transformation, Chief Inspector, Head of Funds Transfer, Banking Operations, Internal Controls. At various times, Laide has had oversight responsibility for Financial Control, IT, Brand Management, Treasury and Enterprise Risk Management. 

Laide has directly managed several high impact projects including originating & negotiating the successful raise of foreign investment ($160 million) from a consortium of reputable investors (led by AIG Capital, ECP and Vectis Capital); Initiating and managing the process of the first international rating of the bank by Fitch Ratings and S & P; Initiating and heading a team that articulated a transformation strategy for the bank; Planning and implementing the rebranding project for the entire group.
